Through awareness, prevention, and support, we aim to break the culture of silence and empower survivors to seek justice and healing.
Understanding the Reality of Rape:
Rape is an act of power and control that knows no boundaries. It affects people of all genders, ages, and backgrounds, leaving survivors traumatized and shattered. It is crucial to recognize that rape is never the fault of the survivor but a violent violation of their bodily autonomy and basic human rights. By understanding the gravity of this crime, we can work collectively to combat rape and build a society that prioritizes safety and respect for all.
Breaking the Culture of Silence:
One of the most significant barriers in addressing rape is the culture of silence that surrounds it. Due to fear, shame, victim-blaming, and a lack of trust in the justice system, many survivors remain silent and do not report the crime. The JUC Foundation Uganda calls for an end to this culture of silence and urges survivors, witnesses, and communities to speak out against rape. It is only by breaking this silence that we can hold perpetrators accountable and create an environment of support and justice
Education and Awareness:
Education is a powerful tool in preventing rape. By promoting consent education, teaching about healthy relationships, and challenging harmful gender stereotypes, we can foster a culture of respect and equality. The JUC Foundation Uganda advocates for comprehensive sex education in schools, community awareness campaigns, and engaging discussions to eliminate misconceptions and promote understanding about consent, boundaries, and the importance of bystander intervention.
